10 million households in Korea have dogs these days. Maybe that’s why it was heartbreaking to see dog bite accidents that often appear on the news. In addition to dog bite accidents, serious crimes that threaten the personal safety of individuals, such as sex crimes, indiscriminate crimes, and revenge crimes, are increasing day by day. In particular, the unprovoked stabbing incident that occurred at a large shopping mall in Korea was an opportunity that made me resolve to not hesitate any longer and to create products as I envisioned. We unexpectedly encounter problematic events in places we thought were safest or in everyday places. The methods we are being taught to deal with crisis situations do not function properly if we miss the moment. I’ve been thinking a lot about how we can protect ourselves as much as possible in the moments of crisis that we suddenly and unexpectedly face. Additionally, as a mother of a child, what I felt while exporting police self-defense products was that these self-defense products should be easily, lightly, and always carried by individuals as well as public institutions. We came up with a pretty and cute product that everyone would always have in their hands, and after thinking about what kind of self-defense product could be used in moments of crisis, we developed and produced ‘popTok + Pepper Spray = SSonda’, which combines a cell phone accessory and a self-defense product. Additionally, by using the rear attachment surface, it can be used in a variety of ways, such as next to a safe in a one-person business or next to a taxi driver’s chair.
